Expectations for Maintaing Off-Campus Privledges (Gr. 10-12)
At Ferndale High School, students in grades 10-12 are granted Off-Campus Privileges during their designated lunch period. This privilege reflects the increased independence and responsibility expected of upperclassmen. The goal of this process is to support student growth, accountability, and safety while ensuring that Off-Campus Privileges remain available to students who consistently demonstrate responsible behavior.
These expectations are aligned with Ferndale School Board Policy 3242.
Students granted Off-Campus Privileges must:
- Return to campus and class on time following lunch.
- Attend all scheduled classes.
- Follow all school and district policies while off campus.
- Demonstrate safe, respectful, and lawful behavior in the community.
- Comply with directions from school staff and administrators regarding off-campus expectations.
Review of Off-Campus Privileges
When concerns arise regarding a student's use of Off-Campus Privileges, school administration may require a Student Support Plan meeting with the student, parent/guardian, and administrator to review the behavior and determine appropriate interventions and consequences.
Behaviors that may lead to a review of Off-Campus Privileges include, but are not limited to:
- Repeated tardiness when returning from lunch.
- Skipping or being absent from 3rd or 4th period after leaving campus.
- Unsafe, disruptive, or unlawful behavior reported while off campus.
- Violations of school or district policies occurring during off-campus lunch periods.
Potential Consequences
Following a Student Support Plan meeting, consequences may include:
- A temporary suspension of Off-Campus Privileges for a specified period of time.
- Additional behavioral or attendance interventions and supports.
- Loss of Off-Campus Privileges for the remainder of a semester.
- Loss of Off-Campus Privileges for the remainder of the school year for repeated or serious violations.
Students who lose Off-Campus Privileges will be required to remain on campus during lunch for the duration of the assigned consequence.
Off-Campus Privileges are not a right and may be suspended or revoked when student behavior demonstrates an inability to meet these expectations.
