Important Information about Posts on an Instagram Account
We want to let you know that yesterday a community member brought to our attention that some displeasing posts about Ferndale School District students were being made on an Instagram account. We believe that the account people were posting to was instagram.com/fhsburn.book/. Ferndale High School administrators are working with local law enforcement to address this matter.
We know use of devices by our students to communicate with others is increasing. Each year, the district provides Digital Citizenship education in its classrooms and also offers education for parents. Topics addressed in the Digital Citizenship curriculum are digital footprint, safe social media use, cyber bullying, digital etiquette, and health & wellness. We know that a majority of our students are using social media for positive interactions, but we would ask parents to partner with us to remind students about safe practices when using devices, especially on social media channels.
For more information about internet safety and digital citizenship, visit the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction's webpage www.k12.wa.us/safetycenter/InternetSafety/default.aspx.
Thank you to the community member who brought this matter to our attention. We appreciate the care and concern from our community in keeping our children safe. ... See MoreSee Less
