Ferndale School Board Members and Executive Committee Members traveled out to each school this week— Teacher Appreciation Week—to personally thank our teachers who devote their time to our students. Our teachers give our students so much more than homework and grades. They exemplify love, patience, kindness, positivity, encouragement, trust, leadership and guidance. Our students are fortunate to have such strong role models, coaches and mentors.
In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week and to thank our teachers, Superintendent Linda Quinn composed a sonnet in the style of William Shakespeare. Shakespearean sonnets are fourteen lines of iambic pentameter divided into four rhyming quatrains and a final couplet.
“Dear teachers, thanks for all you do each day
To build our children’s lives, their dreams inspire,
To light their fires, and chase their fears away.
Your care and dedication I admire.
Enormous is the duty you embrace;
The world’s supreme resource is in your charge.
You mold the future of the human race;
The fate of generations you enlarge.
Although the impact of your work is great,
Each single child you take the time to know.
Within the classroom homes that you create,
You love each student to the next plateau.
Dear teachers, you are heroes every day;
My gratitude may these few lines convey.” By Linda Quinn
