Students Excel in Mathematics

Over 180 Students Compete in Math Olympiad

Students have been practicing math for months. It all came down to one four-hour culminating event held last Thursday evening. Ferndale Schools held its 25th Districtwide Math Olympiad at Eagleridge Elementary School on February 16. This year’s event featured 45 teams and over 180 students in grades 4-8. Students competed across a broad spectrum of higher level mathematics, ranging from algebra to probability. This year, Ferndale High School student Paris Mielke prepared all 18 math tests that were administered during the competition. The following individuals and teams placed first in their category. Superintendent Linda Quinn, Principal Mischa Burnett, Principal Kellie Larrabee, Principal Georgia Dellinger and Principal Obadiah DeWeber did the honors of presenting ribbon awards to students.

These individuals and teams will now compete at the Whatcom County Math Olympiad scheduled for Saturday, February 25.
