Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning at Skyline Elementary, students gather in the gym to jump rope, Double Dutch style, under the coaching of Skyline Paraeducators Pat Roegele and Michele Barmore. Mrs. Roegele says up to 45 students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade show up to jump for fifteen minutes before school starts. The boys and girls take turns jumping and turning the rope. Double Dutch is a style of jumping that involves two ropes turned “egg beater” style. There are Double Dutch tournaments held worldwide. More information can be found on the National Double Dutch League website at nationaldoubledutchleague.com. Watch the video to see Skyline jumpers in action.
