The Ferndale Kiwanis Club Student of the Month for April 2016 is Rhiannon Ayley.
Rhiannon is a senior at Windward High and a sophomore at Whatcom Community College via the Running Start program. She maintains a 3.9 GPA while excelling at a host of extracurricular school and community activities. She has participated in her school’s Sports Club, Drama Club, Anime Club and Creative Writing Club. She is writing her first novel and she has been involved in plays at Windward High and at Whatcom Community College. Additionally, she also practices natural horsemanship, working with and training a wild mustang.
Rhiannon has received Student of the Month awards four times at Windward High and was recognized in science by the American Association of University Women. Since enrolling at Whatcom Community College she has become a member of the Honor Society and has been on the Dean’s List since 2015.
Rhiannon’s community service activities include: testing storm-water runoff in and around the Ferndale area with the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association; serving five times as a juror for the Teen Court; volunteering with Growing Veterans, a program that uses organic farming as a way to help veterans integrate back into regular life. Rhiannon has been accepted at the Evergreen State College, starting next fall.
