Update 4:18 p.m.
At this time, the authorities have checked our school buildings (Horizon, Cascadia, Eagleridge, Skyline and Vista) and have determined they are safe for occupancy. We have not been informed what the cause of the odor was determined to be. Authorities will be investigating the cause in the days to come. All Ferndale schools will resume tomorrow (Friday) on schedule.
We want to thank our parents and families for their patience. We know this may have inconvenienced some people, but we always put student safety first. And, thank you to our first responders. We appreciate your response to this situation
Update 4:02 p.m.
Eagleridge parents and families, we want to let you know that our schools buses are running about 30 minutes late so your students will be arriving home later than normal. We want to thank you for your patience.
Update 3:12 p.m.
Parents of Cascadia, Central, Custer and Skyline students, we want to let you know that our busses will be running 30 minutes late this afternoon in getting students home today. Thank you for your patience.
As a precaution, at 2:30 p.m., the district relocated and transported Eagleridge Elementary School students to the Ferndale High School Gymnasium. Eagleridge students will remain at the high school until dismissal time at 3:30 p.m. At that time, bus riders will be transported home. Parents who usually pick up their students from school, will need to pick up their students at the high school at 3:40 p.m. Parents of walkers, you may pick up your students at the same time. If parents of walkers cannot pick up their students, walkers will be bussed back to the Eagleridge vicinity (not the school) and dismissed to walk home. Authorities have told us it is safe for students to walk home.
At this time, the district is loading all Horizon Middle Schools students on buses and transporting them to Ferndale High School where high school students will be pick up. All Horizon Middle and Ferndale High bus riders will be transported home. Horizon parents who normally pick up their students from school will need to pick up their students at the Ferndale High School campus at 2:40 p.m. Authorities have informed up that it is okay for students who usually walk home to do so this afternoon.
At approximately 12:20 pm, we heard reports from Horizon, Cascadia and Eagleridge schools that they were experiencing some kind of odor near their schools. Some staff and students began feeling ill. We also were notified that Skyline school may be experiencing the same odor. Our schools are sheltering students in place until the cause of the odor is determined. Cascade Natural Gas is in the area trying to determine the cause of the odor. First responders are also on site.
