Ferndale School Board Members Candice Wilson, Lee Anne Riddle and Dr. Kevin Erickson, and Superintendent Linda Quinn and Assistant Superintendent Scott Britain had the opportunity to visit with staff and students at Vista Middle School today. Students Tyler Duckworth, Liberty Hewitson, Madeline Honor and Lars Holien talked with board members and led them on a tour of classrooms.
Principal Heather Leighton and Counselor Mike Black reported on the school implementation of Capturing Kids Hearts. This program is all about developing meaningful relationships and being strategic about how discipline is addressed. Teacher Melissa Solorzana provided an example of an icebreaker that is used in a group setting with students. Students get to learn more about each other.
Teacher Bryan Schmidt provided information about the school's math program. The current math program began three years through the efforts of math teachers at the elementary, middle and high school levels. It's a coherent program that ensures the district is meeting the needs of every student.
