Ferndale Schools Increases Counseling Services

Ferndale School District will be adding three elementary counselors to our district team for the 2017-2018 school year.

During the most recent economic recession when school district budgets were significantly reduced, the decision was made in Ferndale to assign as many staff as possible to classrooms. We cut administrative positions. We also cut the two elementary counseling positions.

At this time, we are pleased to announce that we are able to add back the two elementary counseling positions we had in 2010 plus an additional one.

Elementary counselors are professional educators with a mental health perspective who understand and respond to the diverse challenges faced by today’s young learners. They provide proactive services to help students achieve success in school. They align with the Ferndale School District’s commitment to develop the whole child — his or her social and emotional well-being in addition to academic achievement.

Beginning this week, the district will be accepting applications for the three new counseling positions. The intent is to hire this spring for a start date in the fall. To apply, please visit Employment.
