Ferndale Community Transitions is the bridge that gets students from high school to adult life

Students, staff and families gathered last Friday for Ferndale’s Community Transitions (FCT) program celebration. It was a time to celebrate students’ achievements and to congratulate the six program graduates.

The following graduates were recognized:
Tia Gonzales
Gus Hernandez
Lisa VanErt
Maribel Baldovenos
Simone Repoz
Victoria Graham

Also, STARS certificates (Washington State Dept. of Early Learning) were awarded to Lisa VanErt, Tia Gonzales, and Maribel Baldovinos. With a STAR certificate, students can now work in early child care roles.

Graduate Shayla Neidigh was awarded an HCA Certificate (Health care worker – step 1). Shayla will continue her education to pursue a nursing degree.

The FCT program serves students (clients) who have Individualized Education Plans prior to 12th grade which recommend continued services through age 21. The program prepares young adults for independent living and provides them work experience after completing high school graduation requirements.

In collaboration with community partners, the FCT program prepares clients to be productive and valuable members of the community. The program creates opportunities for clients to learn vocational skills in real-world work environments.

Program Coordinator Mitchell Morrison and Community Transitions Specialist Kim Tisovec help clients develop meaningful goals and coordinate with local businesses and organizations to create opportunities that benefit both clients and employers.
