District Fills Administrative Positions

It is with great pleasure we announce the hiring of two administrators to our team: Director of Transportation Ms. Kelly Johnson and Director of Food Services Mr. Michael Freer.

Ms. Johnson has been hired as the district director of transportation. Most recently, Ms. Johnson worked for the Edmonds School District as a transportation router. Her education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. Also, she earned a certificate in Pupil Transportation Management from Central Washington University. Prior to working in school systems, Ms. Johnson worked as a manager both in the warehouse and in the main office for Olympic Brake Supply. As a manager she developed and implemented several incentive programs for drivers.

“Kelly comes to us with a great background in transportation and has a history of providing excellent customer service. We are confident that she will provide many years of great leadership and stability to the transportation department,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business & Support Services Mark Deebach.

As director of transportation, Ms. Johnson will be responsible for a staff of 44 that includes bus drivers, mechanics and routers, and a fleet of 55 buses. During the school year, the district transports 3,863 students daily. A total of 619,380 miles is driven each year.

Mr. Michael Freer has been hired as director of food services. Ferndale Schools collaborates and contracts with Sodexo to provide food service to all its students and staff. Mr. Freer has an Associates in Culinary Arts from Kendall College and Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from University of California at Santa Barbara. He has many years of experience as a chef manager, cook supervisor, and manager. He has overseen culinary programs to include training for staff as well as supervision.

“We are very excited to have somebody with Micheal’s experience and skills onboard to lead our food services department. I think he will be a great addition to our team,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business & Support Services Mark Deebach.

As director of food services, Mr. Freer will oversee a staff of 40 who deliver delicious, nutritious breakfasts and lunches to our students.

Kelly and Michael begin their positions with the district this month, July.
