International Baccalaureate (IB)

The teaching staff at Beach School consists of two classroom teachers. Other staff include: a part-time principal, and part-time specialists including:  psychologist, nurse and on-call communication disorder specialist. The on-site support staff consists of a full time school manager/administrative assistant, a part-time custodian and four part-time para-educators for classroom/library assistance, lunchroom/playground supervision and Music/PE/Computers.

Beach School enjoys many hours of volunteerism each year from parents and community members.  With our high adult to student ratios, Beach School students are academically well prepared for the transition to the mainland for middle school.

An International Baccalaureate Candidate School

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is one of three International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. IB World Schools are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to a high quality, challenging, international education. Beach Elementary School was authorized in November 2015 and is the smallest IB PYP school in the world/.

Ellen Alquist is the school’s IB Coordinator. She works with the teachers and administrators to develop units of inquiry that will excite students’ imaginations and empower them to search for answers to their questions. Additionally, the Beach School’s teachers are refining their skills in delivering the PYP, especially by improving their use of inquiry in literacy and numeracy.
