Beach Fifth Graders Present IB Exhibition

Beach Elementary Grade five students (l to r) Lauren Hoekstra, Veda Kinkade and Oceana Pomeroy

Inaugural IB Exhibition held at Beach Elementary

Beach Elementary School, the smallest International Baccalaureate (IB) school in the world, hosted its first Exhibition. Fifth grade students Lauren Hoekstra, Veda Kinkade and Oceana Pomeroy presented their in-depth, collaborative inquiry project at a reception for the community.

The three students worked collaboratively to conduct an inquiry into the real-life issue of endangered species—namely the clouded leopard, red panda and dhole. During their inquiry, students synthesized all of the essential elements of the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) and were able to demonstrate those to their community.

Beach Elementary, authorized as an International Baccalaureate school in 2015, serves 32 students. It is located on Lummi Island. To learn more, visit
