The district is pleased to announce the hiring of Ms. Jenifer Rolie as assistant principal for Ferndale High School. Ms. Rolie fills the position that was open due to Mr. Jeremy Vincent moving to the principal position.

Ms. Rolie comes to the district from Bellingham Schools where she has worked as dean of students at Shuksan Middle School. Prior to working at Shuksan, she was a K-12 literacy coach with the Mount Vernon School District.

“We believe Jen is going to be an excellent addition to Ferndale High School and to our community. In addition to her rich background in education, we were impressed by her warm personality and her passion for building strong relationships with students, families, and staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Linda Quinn.

Ms. Rolie completed her administrative internship at Centennial Elementary School in Mount Vernon and received her certification from Western Washington University. She earned a Masters of Education in teaching from the University of La Verne, California and a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from San Diego State University, California. She is a National Board Certified Teacher.

Another change happening at Ferndale High will be the transition of Assistant Principal Julia Besola to the district’s Teaching & Learning Team where she will serve as director of teaching and learning. “We are very excited to have Julia in this expanded leadership role where she can use her skills to help strengthen the district’s connections with families. One of Julia’s primary responsibilities will be to help us develop a parent partnership program that can serve those who want more of a home-based educational experience for their children. This is something we have been missing in Ferndale, and Julia is the right person to help us fill this gap,” said Superintendent Quinn.

Ms. Besola will also be working with the outreach part of our Title Program and our new community court. She will be located at the district office.

Ms. Besola has been with the district since 1999. She has served as assistant principal at Ferndale High School and also was principal of Clearview High and Windward High schools. In 2008, she was selected as Northwest Conference Assistant Principal of the Year.

“Because the district had a strong pool of applicants for the high school assistant principal position, and because it is late in the hiring season, the district will select a second assistant principal for Ferndale High based on the work the selection committee has already completed,” said Superintendent Quinn.

Ferndale High School serves grades 9-12 with an approximate enrollment of 1,350 students.
